William Henry Jones was born in about 1875 in Broadway Worcestershire. His father had been the Chief Whip with the North Cotswold Hounds.
His whereabouts in the 1901 census were not traced, but in 1911 he appears to have been working as a groom in Cliff House, Atherstone in Leicestershire. His obituary states that William had been a huntsman with the North Staffordshire Hounds for four years before the war. He was single.
He enlisted in May 1915 and was a gunner with the 15th Battery Machine Gun Corps [Motor Branch]. His regimental number was 703.
He was killed in action on 3 September 1916 in Flanders, aged 39, and his grave is in Delville Wood Cemetery.
