No records of military service or death were found for a William Clarke who had a connection with Trentham.
In the 1901 census a William Clarke, aged 9, was living in Hem Heath with his father John, 35 a widower and colliery furnace labourer. His grandmother, Mary Ann Clarke a widow, was head of household. Also resident were an uncle, George 28, and two sisters Lizzie 13 and Edith 11.
In the 1911 census William is no longer living in Hem Heath and cannot be traced elsewhere. The census shows that his grandmother is still alive aged 81 and his father and Uncle George are still working as colliery furnace labourers and his sister Elizabeth seems to have had an illegitimate child, Thomas aged 3.
