Thomas Hemmings was born in 1898 in Tittensor and lived at Strongford Mill, the son of Thomas and Eleanor Hemmings. He worked for the North Staffordshire Railway Company and was single when he joined the army.
He was a private with the North Staffs Regiment, regimental number 36644 and 2/4th Bn East Lancashire Regiment, regimental number 29927. He was killed in action on 10 October 1917, aged 19, in Flanders. His name is engraved on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Zonnebeke, West Flanders (West-Vlaanderen), Belgium.
