Arthur Thorley was born in 1893 at Hanchurch. In 1911 he lived with his father and mother and brothers and sister at 5 New Inn Lane Hanford. He was a farm labourer and cattleman and was single.
He enlisted in Burslem and was a private in the 6th Battalion of the York and Lancaster Regiment, regimental number 20190. He was formerly in the North Staffs regiment, number 11446.
He was killed in action on 28 November 1917 in Flanders, aged 24. His grave is at St Patrick’s Cemetery, Loos, Pas de Calais, France.
